![]() ![]() These reports give a complete break-down of everything in the book, so you'll know just how clean it is or isn't. ![]() **Like my reviews? I also have hundreds of detailed reports that I offer too. and maybe it's books like these that got us thinking wrong behavior is something to laugh about and not something to correct.īut like I said, perhaps I'll save this topic for later and take a closer, philosophical look at it in a blog post. Or how hilarious it is for little children to swear. I could rant or explain, and maybe some day I will, about how I think it's kind of messed up and backward how parents will video their child throwing the most awful, screaming tantrums and then comment on how cute and funny it is. Or disobediently jumping on the bed to end the story. but lying isn't comical and putting it into story form so that kids can also think lying (or story-telling) is comical is not my cup of tea. ![]() ![]() ![]() France says he will marry Cordelia even without a dowry. Enraged, Lear strips her of her dowry, and banishes Kent when the latter attempts to intercede on Cordelia's behalf. Some of them used that money to purchase their own freedom. It is an historically accurate depiction of how enslaved Africans were forced to build the White House for very little compensation. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Brick by Brick by Charles R. ![]() It is so disingenuous to present this story in this way, and it entirely erases the legacy of the Black bodies that did the labor to put up the building. ![]() What is so egregious about this book is the fact that it presents the creation and building of the White House as George Washington's work, without so much as mentioning the enslaved people who worked to build it. ![]() I was a teacher at a school that serves almost entirely Black students, and our librarian chose this book for our library time. I had the misfortune of being present for a reading of this book a few years ago in "celebration" of President's Day. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Through a good part of the post-World War II era, Milton Friedman (1912-2006) was a leading voice for personal freedom and economic liberty, as well as one of the most internationally prominent economic scholars of his time. An example of this counterrevolution may be seen in a recent attack on the classical liberal, free market economist, the late Milton Friedman, in the pages of The New York Times. But it is really not an exaggeration in the current climate of political discord and antagonism, admittedly amplified by it being a presidential election year when political parties make hyperbole the norm. This may sound like strong language for dramatic affect. We are in the midst of an open counterrevolution against liberty and limited government in the United States. ![]() ![]() ![]() When she finds out about the allowance the future duchess will receive, she proposes that the duke marry her instead of her friend. Don’t worry though, her friend is not in love with him at all and it was a marriage contract from many years past. What follows is a series of near-death experiences, blackmail, family destitution, and a fearful pull that Alexandra has towards her friend’s intended, Piers. Chapter one starts ten years later when she’s on her way to a duke’s masquerade ball where her friend is supposed to be announced as his fiancee. As expected, the two friends will make up the main characters of the other two books in this series. To help her feel better, her two best friends reveal their own tragic secrets. ![]() We start with a tragic prologue where Alexandra is attacked by her school headmaster, defends herself, and then needs her friends to assist her in covering things up. As expected, there was a huge amount of drama and emotional turmoil in this book. ![]() How To Love A Duke in Ten Days by Kerrigan Byrne (2019) I recommend reading this one in order since you find out about our three friends’ backstory in the prologue of Book 1. The Devil You Know series by Kerrigan Byrne is a short three-book series that packs in loads of drama with tragic prologues for everyone involved. ![]() ![]() ![]() Burl sporadically begins to think, and discovers the wonders of tools - specifically, spears and clubs. We follow Burl, a member of a human tribe, who wanders through a nightmare world of deadly spores, giant hunter spiders, killer crayfish, and foot-long army ants. "The Mad Planet" is set in the far future of Earth after the atmosphere has been filled with carbon dioxide (partly by human burning of coal and oil, in a strange foreshadowing of global warming) and most plant and animal life has died off, leaving monstrous fungus forests and giant insects and a meek, devolved shred of the human race. To some extent, it reminds me of the story in that anthology about the weakling caveman who uses his wits to invent the club and becomes chief of the tribe by using this tool to beat up stronger competitors. It feels like full-fledged, post-Gernsbackian SF, and in fact feels like something that could have appeared in Healy and McComas' famous anthology of Campbellian SF, Adventures in Time and Space.
